Research achievement:

Auxin has been considered as a key hormone in plant that can regulate every aspect of plant growth and development. Previous studies intensively illustrated that Auxin has been perceived by its receptor TIR1 in nucleus that can control gene transcription. In the meanwhile, auxin has been repeatedly implicated in regulating cellular responses through a non-transcriptional manner. Our work identified a transmembrane kinase family proteins (TMKs) that regulates cell morphogenesis through ROP signaling (2014 Science) by the potential binding with auxin binding protein 1(ABP1).  Recent work showed that this non-canonical auxin signaling regulates cell division activity through TOR kinase (2017 PNAS), cell division pattern through MPK signaling (2019 PNAS), and differential growth in apical hook development through non-canonical IAAs (2019 Nature). In the meanwhile, we also have illustrated a self-regulation mechanism of auxin biosynthesis through phosphorylation of TAA proteins by TMK (2019 Nature Communications). More interestingly, TMKs has also been implicated in regulating stress responses through ABA signaling (Submitted). Overall, we aim to investigate the non-transcriptional auxin signaling through TMK based mechanism or other mechanisms, and also figure out the complex roles of ABP1 and ABP1-like proteins in this non-canonical auxin signaling.
